Sociologist and Cultural Scientist
Prof. Dr. Shingo Shimada has been holding the professorship of Modern Japan II with orientation toward social science at the Institute of Modern Japan at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf from 2005 to 2023. He received his doctorate and habilitation from the Friedrich Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg at the Department of Sociology. Before 2005, Shingo Shimada was Professor of Comparative Cultural Sociology at the Institute of Ethnology at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. His research focuses on cultural studies and sociological comparisons of German and Japanese societies as well as the aging of Japanese society.
