Motonori Inagaki studied at the Osaka University of Art. He focuses on photography, media art, and drawing art. The participatory public art and community art projects he realizes with Kiyomi Fujimoto on the joint platform \u00bbOne Art Project\u00ab continue to promote an understanding of the social significance of art.

Artist Mission: A Dialogue with Time<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n


I have been drawing on paper of the same size for 29 years, starting at the age of 20. Continuous drawing allows me to observe myself growing and aging. I think about what I can do and what I can’t do. I can’t draw the way I did when I was 20 years old. And in 20 years, I won’t be able to draw the way I do now.

People resist time. Even though we live with time completely. I, too, resist time. Isn’t it true that many artists devote their heart and soul to the transformation of time? I think about what exactly has to happen for this resistance to exist. In any case: keep drawing, keep observing.

I\u2019d like to have a dialogue about time with people from distant countries. Even though time is something we all share, we all have different ideas about how we deal with it, how we keep ourselves away from it, how we affirm or deny it. In my own life, the meaning of the word \u00bbaging\u00ab has changed over and over again, depending on my age.

When I was young, I was in a hurry to grow up, and now I’m trying to stop the aging process somehow. I’ll be 50 this year, which was a quite old person for me 20 years ago \u2013 and will be a quite young person 20 years from now. Both physically and mentally, I’m in a state today that I wasn’t in 20 years ago and won’t be in 20 years in the future.

But on the other hand, people grow and pass away, progress and regress, make leaps. I don’t think they necessarily follow a timeline. To know this fact is to believe in oneself and in the world, and at the same time to doubt.

Through my drawings, photographs, videos and workshops, I want to create a dialogue with \u00bbaging\u00ab. I hope that my works become knowledge about \u00bbaging\u00ab and as such may reenter society. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
